FolSec’s File Duplicate Analysis menu is an effective tool for identifying and managing duplicate files located on file servers. With this feature, you can see how many duplicate files exist on the file server and how much space they occupy. This helps you identify unnecessary files that take up space and use your storage more efficiently.

What is a Duplicate File?

For a file to be considered a duplicate, it must meet all of the following criteria:

  • File name
  • File size
  • File extension

If these three attributes are the same, the files are considered duplicates. FolSec analyzes these files and provides a detailed report.

In-Depth File Analysis with Hash Scanning

If a hash scan is initiated on the file server, the process goes beyond checking file name, size, and extension — it focuses on the content of the files. During a hash scan:

Hash values of the files are calculated.

Files with the same hash value are considered identical in content, regardless of their names or extensions.

This allows the detection of files that may look different but are exactly the same inside.

Why Use File Duplicate Analysis?
